Then, it is believed that Goddess Parvathi devi who saved Lord Shiva from swallowing the poison by holding His neck to stop the poison in the neck itself without entering into the body. Therefore, Lord Shiva appears and blesses His devotees in this temple with the name Abathsahayeshwarar (savior of sufferings).
