Holy Ponds (Punnia Theertham):

There are twelve holy ponds inside the temple here. They are Sooriya, Yama, Sangu, Agni, Durga, Gowdam, Parisara, Indhra, Pruha, kanva, and Vasishta respectively. Now a days, Soorya Theertham is called Soorya Pushkarani. All the twelve theerthams are known as Thirisoola Theertham. As per the temple history, Lord Shiva created all the twelve theertham in this temple for devotees.

While Lord Shiva digged the land with His Thirisoolam, the holy Ganga River overflowed there to merge in with Nattaru, Arasalaru and Keerthimanararu. We come to know the event through a Tamil song, Siva Punnia Thelivu.

Significance about the Temple: Sage Suseelar cursed Rahu who got salvation from the curse through His worship in this temple. Rahu Himself blesses His devotees directly from this temple. Rahu Dhosha Nivarthi is famous in this temple. (To free from Rahu Dhosha): The devotees who worship Rahu in this temple in order to free from Rahu Dhosha, and Kala Sharpa Dhosha and get the blessings of Rahu to be freed out of the Dhoshas is strongly believed over here. The faith is through Pooja and Abhisheham in this temple by devotees.

The statue of the God under goes a color change (blue) during Abhisheham

is a miracle everybody witness here in this temple.

Well-known Worshippers at this Temple:

Lord Ganesha worshipped Lord Shiva of this temple to get blessed with the name Gnanapathi. Sage Gowdhama got back his wife through his worship at this temple.

Lord Indhira with the guidance of a peacock achieved greatness after His worship in this temple. Lord Brahma, Paheeradha were freed from their sins once

after their worship of Lord Shiva in this temple.

King Sithira Senar became famous after conducting festival to the God of this temple in the Tamil month Vaihasi. Lord Parasuramar worshipped Lord Shiva here to be freed from His sins. Pandavas worshipped Lord Shiva of this temple to get back their lost fortune and they performed festival to Lord Shiva in the Tamil month Karthihai.

Maharishi Vasishtta benefitted out his worship in this temple. The kings of Snakes, Aadhiseshan, Dhakshan, and Karkodakan worshipped Lord Shiva in this temple. Sage Narkunar through his constant fasting and pooja on Mondays got back life to his son. Devotees get internal and external, physical and mental peace by their worship in this temple.

Poojas: Pooja to the Gods is being performed six times daily. To Rahu, daily the pooja goes on during the Rahu Kala (Rahu Kalam).

Festivals: Brahmotsavam in the Tamil month Karthihai begins every year from the third Friday onwards to prolong for a period of ten days. Thirugnanasambandhar, the Tamil saint poet recited songs on this God to get blessed by Him thoroughly.

Lord Shiva directs His children whoever comes to get their Maha Shiva Nadi prediction with the influence of Rahu and Rahu Dhasha Nivarthi at this temple.
